PR: For.U.M. reaction to the 2026 Budget – More work-life balance measures expected

Forum Unions Maltin notes a number of measures which were extended in this budget. This was only possible through the hard-working employees contributing to Malta’s economy. Measures include the discussion on improved maternity, parental and paternity leave, and the discussion on the introduction of occupational pension. The budget increased the minimum wage,  increased the children allowance, increased the birth and adoption bonus, and increased the pensions by Eur 10 per week. The budget reduced taxes for families with one or more children and introduced proposals for AI training and certification.

Forum Unions Maltin presented a set of proposals to the government including the 36-hour week which would create a better work-life balance for employees and their families. Furthermore, the confederation believes that it is of utmost importance that due consideration is given to remote working for work-life balance and to reduce the acute traffic problems in Malta.
